Our team is a growing test organization that is looking to hire strong SDET to drive quality of Bing product. This position requires a strong passion for testing and deep technical problem solving skills. You will be expected to make strong contributions to feature design; engaging with peers in test planning, prototyping, design, and scheduling; writing solid test cases and test code. A qualified candidate should have a proven track record of shipping high quality software, has excellent technical knowledge around test design and test tool development, and has a strong drive to foster a high performance agile test culture. They will need to be motivated, a self-starter, and be passionate about placing quality first.

Key Responsibilities
Mentor and coach team members
Design and develop high quality test plans and test cases
Work closely with Development and Program Management teams to provide feedback on design (product and technical) and user scenarios
Drive improvements in unit testing coverage, develop test suites, expand our automated testing harness, and automate end to end tests
Analyze defect patterns and drive test initiatives to resolve these to completion
Design and develop test tools that allow our team to scale out to support new features
Work with feature teams to collect the right data to base decisions from
Validate metrics and reporting accuracy

Qualifications:
Test experience (9+ years) with track record of driving multiple products/versions from inception to delivery.
A degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
Four years of coding in C and C++, or C# or Java
Preferred to have knowledge in web technologies (JavaScript, CSS, XML, HTML, JSP and Java Servlets)
Experience in writing test automation and a passion for UX testing. Solid tool creation/code writing experience.
A test mentality and methodology with a strong focus on end-to-end scenario testing.
Excellent problem solving, debugging, design and debugging skills.
Excellent communications skills both in team, across team and with management and other disciplines.

Millions of people interact with the Bing search engine every day, and even small improvements to the core search results lead directly to large numbers of people connecting with information they never would have found otherwise.

The Bing team in IDC works at the core of the Bing stack: driving and redefining the technology for understanding the query intent, ranking the “ten blue links” and presenting the rich information for each of the “ten blue links”. What can you show the user in a small amount of space that will be most useful? This problem ends up touching on a wide variety of disciplines (statistics, information retrieval, natural language processing, machine learning, and user interaction research).

As a member of the Bing Core Relevance Team, you will perform a mixture of evaluation, data mining, and modeling—including running Map-Reduce-style jobs over our index and our logs, identifying features and patterns that would help in differentiating good results from bad results given a query, building models to use these features for result ranking and presentation — and write production C++ code that runs in our data centers for feature generation. In addition, you will also implement features that make use of structured and semi-structured markup on webpages to break new ground in search results presentation and visibly differentiate Bing results.

Qualifications:

• BS or MS in Computer Science or a related discipline with machine learning or data mining background
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with developers in other teams
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• At least 12 years of experience in industrial software development
• Demonstrated proficiency with at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Ruby, Perl) and a systems programming language (e.g., C++, C#, Java)
• Bonuses: Ph. D., experience in web search and/or information retrieval, map-reduce, matlab, strong C++ coding and object-oriented design skills.

What we do

The Relevance and Data Sciences Team works on semantic understanding of the web, building knowledge on entities and intent both from queries and documents, and the algorithm behind the ordering of the “10 Blue Links” (i.e. the web results),

Query Intent
We handle billions of queries a day. Our team tries to gain insights into query classes, extract entities and derive multiple intents from the user queries, build feature representation for the queries. We pass all the insights gained as signals to various downstream services like algo ranking, mobile ranking, ad services, etc. The role of the engineer is to identify data sources, select right set of features (language, session, clicks, etc.), and build scalable models for the signals.

Document Understanding
We crawl and index the whole web. We have billions of documents in our web corpus, and process petabytes of data every day in understanding the web documents. Our team works on creating the digital map of the web by extracting the entities, sentiments and aboutness of the documents at the web scale. The role of the engineer is to identify new signals from the web corpus, and build highly performant algorithms to process petabytes of data on a daily basis.

Ranking
On a day to day basis our team runs hundreds of experiments to see how we can move Relevance using various signals on the internet (social, click data, anchor signals, structured data, etc). We have a very mature experimentation platform that enables us to quickly kick off an experiment in the cloud, and get initial results within hours. Our process is simple: we fail, we debug, we iterate, we fail, we debug, we iterate, and we finally fail/debug/iterate enough times and then ship a gain. The role of the engineer is to identify problem areas through data analysis and query debugging, build hypothesis to solve these problems, iterate and experiment, ship improvements to core ranking algorithm.

In this senior role you will would be leading and growing a team of SDETs and successfully delivering the next version of Search products with high quality.

Under your leadership, the Bing quality and test team is expected to break new grounds in ensuring that our users, partners and advertisers have a great experience. Your will help focus the team on risk and scenario based testing, service hardening, operational excellence and data quality.

Responsibilities will include:
Hire and build a solid team that shares core values like passion for quality and Customer focus.
Provide critical input into planning, design, and development of next versions of Bing from a Customer experience and compare against competition
Drive business through metrics. Design, measure and report user perceived metrics that capture customer impact as a result of dissatisfaction or functional bugs in the product.

Strong technical background in testing and designing automation framework in services. Identify areas for improvement and drive test initiatives including development of test harnesses and tools
Demonstrated experience delivering results through collaboration across disciplines, feature teams, and partners;
Demonstrated experience shipping products at Microsoft (Services a big plus but not required);
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that includes an aggressive release schedule
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Bachelors or higher degree in Computer Science or other related technical discipline
