Project Manager – Automotive Domain

Role Mission
The Project Manager is leading a temporary organization, which will deliver a unique product or service. The work is limited in time with a definite beginning and end. The project is also limited in cost and accomplished within a defined scope. A project may cross organizational boundaries when it comes to stakeholders and deliveries in different countries, sites or units. The Project Manager is responsible for the initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing processes throughout a project.
This role occurs at professional development steps D1, D2, E1 and E2. The responsibilities and powers are basically the same, but at professional development steps E the projects typically are larger, global and more complex, requiring experience from most of the project management disciplines, general management and customers’ business knowledge.

Role Context
The Project Manager is working in the following context:
Appointed by the Delivery Management Committee (DMC) chairman
Co-operates with the Customer to define the scope, goals and deliverables for the project
Co-operates with an Account Manager who is responsible for the agreement with the customer
Throughout the projects working within the framework decided by the DMC
In the line organisation reporting to a Line Manager

Key performance indicators for the Project Manager include delivery precision and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities and Powers
Key responsibilities
Responsible for a professional relationship with project stakeholders. To build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
Responsible for supporting the Account Manager (AM) in customer interactions and agreement work.
Responsible for defining project scope, goals and deliverables that support business objectives in collaboration with the DMC.
Responsible for establishing the Project Management Plan (PMP) in accordance with the commercial agreement and ensure PMP is communicated to all stakeholders.
Responsible for planning, organising, reporting and following up the project in accordance with the approved PMP.
Responsible for regularly communicating information about the project to defined project stakeholders.
Responsible for defining the project success criteria and distributing them to involved parties throughout the project life cycle.
Responsible for determining the frequency and content of status reports from the project team analyze results and troubleshoot problem areas.
Responsible for identifying potential risks and establishing contingency plans.
Responsible for managing changes and to re-plan the project in order to meet project objectives according to DMC decisions.
Responsible for delivering project results to the customer within approved assignment agreement and to report issues and deviations to AM/Delivery Management Committee (DMC).
Responsible for ensuring solution quality in accordance with the project management plan.
Responsible for using project management best practices and to use Volvo IT’s recommended tools for project execution and management.

Responsible for working with and supporting the AM in reaching the expected gross-profit.

Responsible for staffing the project.
Authorised to manage and distribute the work of the project staff according to the HR agreement.
Responsible for setting and continually managing project expectations with/to team members and other stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
Responsible for identifying and resolving issues and conflicts within the project team.
Responsible for the project member’s motivation and well-being in the project. Supervise project team members, contractors and influence them to take positive actions and responsibilities for their assigned work.
Support Line Managers in the assessment of project team members

Experience Recommended
– 12 – 15 years of experience in IT, preferably in application development
– At least 3 to 4 years as Project Manager in a large enterprise and must have handled responsibilities as mentioned above
– Exposure to Automotive domain is a must

Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics
Chassis Engineer (PD – 01)
B.E./B.Tech, Mechanical / Automobile, 3-7 years

  • Chassis structure (Frames, cross members, engine and cab installation)
  • Chassis equipment (Battery box, spare wheel carrier, fuel tanks, exhaust installation, EATS)
  • Component and system development in coordination with Volvo stakeholders (purchasing, manufacturing, packaging) and external suppliers
  • Relevant experience in design concepts and production method: casting, sheet metal, plastic.

Powertrain Installation Engineer (PD – 02)

  • Design of front suspension components for a heavy /medium duty range of commercial vehicle

  • Component and system development in coordination with various stakeholders like purchasing, manufacturing, after market and suppliers
  • Good experience of verification and validation of responsible components
  • Demonstration of analytical ability in solving field failures

Team Leader, Steering and Suspension (PD – 05)
B.E/B.Tech, Mechanical, 10 – 12 years

  • Hands on experience in design, development verification and validation of suspension and steering for heavy / medium duty truck
  • Good leadership skills to mentor team
  • Well versed with resource planning, cost estimation, time plan tor development activities including releases / verification & validation
  • Knowledge about complete product life-cycle of a truck

Analysis Engineer (PD – 06)
M.E. / M.Tech, Mechanical / Automobile, (3-8) years

  • Knowledge in Non-linear, Transient, Frequency Response, Multi-body Dynamics & Fatigue is preferred
  • Must have hands-on experience either in (i) Ansa / Hyperworks or Abaqus / Nastran
  • Product knowledge in Automotive Industry, Trucks / Construction Equipment would be an advantage

Purchasing
Supplier Quality Engineer (PU – 07)
B.E./B.Tech with experience ranging from 3-6 years
(Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical / Industrial)

  • Knowledge of new product development process & part approval process (APQP & PPAP knowledge)
  • Process audit knowledge (including review of FMEA / Control Man / MSA)
  • Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings (GD&T) & symbols and knowledge of measurement & testing
  • Exclusive for Software SOE : Automotive Spice or CMM knowledge for Software Development & testing position only
